Self Esteem Bath Spell You Will Need: a bath lavender essential oil jasmine essential oil an essential oil burner 7 green oak leaves (basil can be used if oak is out of season) 1 purple candle 1 yellow candle purple thread 1 envelope Procedure: First, start a warm bath running and drizzle some of the lavender oil into the water. Next light both candles and sit them near the bath. Float the leaves in the bath and climb in. Breathe in through your nose and hold it for a count of seven. Breathe out through your mouth for a seven count. Repeat this process six more times. As you breathe in, visualize your lungs filling up with warm, golden light. As you breathe out, see your frustrations in your breath and watch your anger, pain, and all of the other barriers that stand in your way float away with each exhalation. Now, totally relaxed and at ease with yourself, visualize a spot of golden light above you. Watch it get bigger and bigger before it floats down and your body is enveloped in its warm glow. Say: I have a contribution to make. I have words to say. Let others hear the words I speak. And take self-doubt away. And let it be done, that it harm no one. Repeat these words six more times before leaving the bath and snuffing the candles. Thread the oak leaves onto the string and then hold them up to the light and repeat the previous verse one last time. Fold the leaves into the envelope and place the envelope into your handbag or wallet. End the ritual by burning the jasmine oil in the burner and letting the scent of it waft over you, removing any last traces of self-doubt. Put on a little cologne or perfume, and dress yourself in spotless white. Tie your head with white or pink. Bath Salts Bath salts and other nice smelling things have become very popular. To be honest I've always liked nice smelling things. In fact, I have a whole ledge in the bathroom devoted to all my smellies. Some are commercially made and others are things I've made myself. By far the things I've made are the most satisfying to use. With homemade products, you know exactly what is in them, how old they are and how much to use in the bath water. This can be an advantage even when you aren't bathing in preparation for a ritual. It is pretty common today to treat yourself with a nice relaxing bath with a bath salt that is supposed to relieve stress but find all it does is make you come up in a rash. That has happened to more people than I can count. Believe it or not, bathtub catastrophes are the worlds best kept secret. No one wants to admit they used a vanilla bath salt the other night and now have an embarrassing rash in unmentionable places. The main ingredients in bath salts do not cause most of these problems. The preservatives, colors and artificial scents are the most likely culprit. Such artificial ingredients aren't usually needed but modern companies still waste their money adding them. I suspect they do so for the private chuckle they get when we phone them after our lovers see the rash and make wild assumptions. Still, with all that said we buy the commercial product. I know I shouldn't but it is more convenient to buy the overpriced block of salt in the grocery store, then go to three different drug stores to track down the ingredients. If you are like me and have attacks of conscience, you will occasionally wish to make your own. When I do suddenly catch the urge to make my own, it is much cheaper, safer and incredibly easy to make bath salts. I can also make large batches that will last me quite a while. A basic recipe can make as much as you want. Just be sure to keep the ratio between the ingredients the same. There are also many different recipes out there so experiment as much as you like but sometimes simplicity is best. Even after making bath salts for years I can make mistakes. Basic Bath Salts You Will Need: 2 cups of Epsom Salts 2 Cups of Salt 1/2 cup of Baking soda 1 Tablespoon of Glycerin 1/2 Tablespoon Oil (Almond, Olive or Grape Seed is best) Essential Oils Add all of the dry ingredients together. Mix them well so they are thoroughly blended. Try to use good quality salt like sea or mineral salt but table salt will work in a pinch. Add the glycerin and oil to the mixture and then blend. This can take awhile so don't get impatient. You don't want large clumps in the end product. You can also add this to a blender or food processor if you wish to make things go faster. Just remember to clean the blender or processor afterwards. The salts should not be wet to the touch or totally dry. If you don't feel that the salts are dry or wet enough, add more of the ingredient you think it needs. Once the wet ingredients are mixed well into the dry, decide which essential oils you wish to use. Take the mixture out of the blender or processor before you add the essential oils or else your next dinner will taste very strange. If you want a refreshing scent, try peppermint and lavender. Vanilla and cinnamon is lovely too. Rose and sandalwood is good for relaxing. Instinct can often draw you to the scents that will benefit you. Don't double guess yourself when you smell something nice and want to blend it with another nice smelling oil. Sometimes it's just nice to soak in a bath that smells good. Aromatherapy books are a wonderful source for the properties of oils. If you are not familiar with an oil, consult a book. It can tell you which oils it blends best with and what it does. Also remember to make sure the essential oil is blended into carrier oil such as olive before you use it. The concentration of the solution should be 2%. More essential oil than that and you could very well get a rash. Allergies love lurking, waiting for you to dare fate. Try doing a skin test first! When you add your essential oils, do it a few drops at a time. It is easy to become over eager and just add a whole lot in. This means you have a bath salt that doesn't mix properly and is too strong. If such an accident occurs, use less in the bath. It doesn't work as well but it is better than throwing it out. Always add a little less essential oil than you think is necessary to the 2% solution. This is a safty measure just to be sure. There is often the temptation to add more as your nose will get used to the smell but try not to. If you are not sure which scents you wish to use in the future, make up a batch without essential oils. Before you wish to use them, add a few drops of oil to the amount you wish to use. Mix it together and then add to your bath. Just remember that bath salts mature. This means that a batch with essential oils added, which is a few days old, is stronger than a just made batch. Remember to check your bath salts regularly! They do go off! To slow the process you can buy evening primrose oil in gel caps. Prick the caps and add roughly a tablespoon to the mixture. Evening primrose oil has a natural preservative and is kind to your skin. Colors can be added using food coloring should you wish. Blend primary colors for more exotic shades in a teaspoon before adding so that the salts do not come out blotchy. I've also found if I add a little water to the colors it takes less work to blend them. Once the bath salts are mixed, store in jars or zip-lock bags. Keep them from the air and the direct sun. How much you want to add to your bath is up to you. Try roughly a handful. Wash Away a Curse Timing: Night after the full moon You Will Need: 12 white candles 1 black or dark purple candle 1 cup of coarse salt 1 tbs lavender blossoms 1 tbs white sage (not green) 1 tbs chamomile Procedure: You can be liberal with the herbs, as long as they are in roughly the same proportions. Perform this spell on the night after a full moon for the best results. On your altar (or right in the bathroom) make a circle with the 12 white candles. Put the black one in the middle. Don't light them just yet. Run a hot bath, and add the salt and the herbs. Now light the candles and get in the bath. Get comfortable and repeat the following. Say: By the light of moon's wane cleanse my soul of this stain. Let the spell be reverse. Lift away this dark curse. As I enter sacred space return my soul to grace. Pour some of the bathwater over your head (keep your eyes closed!). Do this 3 times, and say the rest of the words each time. Say: Forgive what was done. Let the spell be undone. Stay in the bath until the water begins to cool off. When you get out, snuff out the candles but leave them in their circle. For the next 3 nights, relight them all and repeat the second part of the chant. After the 3rd night, relight the black candle and let it burn all the way out (if it's not already finished). Foaming Bath Salts You Will Need: 1/2 cup liquid soap 1/8 cup light oil 4 cups epson salt 1/2 teaspoon vitamin e oil essential oils - relaxing oils fragrance oil soap colors Procedure: Mix together the soap, oil and soap coloring. Spread the salts out in a thin layer on a cookie sheet covered with wax paper and allow to air dry. This can take up to 24 hours. Put the bath salts into a decorative container when they are completely dry. Pour 1/2 cup of the salts into the bath under warm running water. Fizzy Bath Bombs You Will Need: 1/8 cup epson salt (optional) 3/4 cup baking soda 1/4 cup citric acid powder 1/4 cup cornstarch Procedure: Mix very well. Add UP to 1/4 cup olive oil, until the consistency of pastry dough. (Just sticks together). Add about 20 drops of fragrance oil for scent, Essential Oils , and soap colors if you want them scented and colored. Form into small ball, or you can buy molds from a craft store. Let them sit out for about 6 hours then wrap in plastic wrap. These are always great as gift or to sell. To use, plop a ball into your bathtub in warm water! Bath Salts You Will Need: 2 part sea salt 1 parts baking soda 3 parts epsom salts 10 to 15 drops of fragrance coloring Procedure: Combine all ingredients together in an extra large ziploc bag and toss until thoroughly blended. If you want to add color, add a dab of food coloring inside the bag and work the color into the salts. Add fragrance. Put salts into a decorative jar or container for an inexpensive gift. To use: Pour 1/2 cup of the salts into the bath under warm running water. Bath Bombs You Will Need: 1/4 c. baking soda 2 Tablespoons citric acid or absorbic acid (powdered vit. C) 1 Tablespoons Borax powder (for softening) 2 Tablespoons powdered sugar (for binding) 2 Tablespoons sweet almond oil 1 teaspoons vitamin e oil (preservative) 1/4 teaspoons fragrance or essential oil Procedure: Combine dry ingredients in a bowl and stir until well blended. Drizzle in almond oil and stir until mixture is moistened. Add vitamin e oil and fragrance and stir until well mixed. Take teaspoon size globs of mixture and form into ball shapes with fingers. Mixture will be VERY crumbly and fragile , so do the best you can. Add a little bit more of the vitamin e. oil I find that helps. Place the balls on a sheet of wax paper and leave alone for 2-3 hours. After 2-3 hrs, reshape balls. Let the balls air-dry and harden for 10 days. Store balls in a closed container to protect from moisture. To use, plop a ball into your bathtub in warm water! Magick Lavender Bath Purpose: To refresh and cleanse you. Hang the sachet under the faucet, and draw your bath water, allowing it to pour down through the herbs. Add a half cup of lemon juice to the bath. When you settle into the tub, lean back, relax, and take three deep breaths. Close your eyes and focus on the excess tension and stress in your body. Iron Water Bath History: Iron is sacred to the African Orisha Ogun. Iron has powerful healing qualities, and is even added to cereals in many western countries for it's life-enhancing qualities. Iron is the critical molecule in blood, and at the psychic and spiritual planes it is a powerful tonic that can heal all sorts of illnesses and infirmities. Be very careful with iron, as it can be toxic to consume too much. This spell also should only be done by adults, as it requires the use of heat and boiling water which can cause injury. You Will Need: 1 heat proof iron tool, such as a hammerhead 1 large bucket of cold water 1 fire source Procedure: Place the iron into a source of fire, like a burner on the stove, or a barbecue grill. Leave the iron in the heat until it is very hot. Using tongs remove the iron from the flame, and quickly plunge it into the cold water. Leave the iron in the water until the iron is cool. Do this very carefully so that you do not get burned with the iron or hot water. Repeat these two steps twice more, so that the water is charged with the iron a total of three times. Draw a warm bath for the sick person, and add some of the iron-infused water. This water is very powerful, so a small amount will go a long way. It is better to repeat the bath several times than to use all the iron water in one bath. Remember to harm none!!!! Katydid's Site Index
